Aspects on Multi-Dimensional Modelling of Substellar Atmospheres

چکیده
Theoretical arguments and observations suggest that the atmospheres of Brown Dwarfs and planets are very dynamic on chemical and on physical time scales. The modelling of such substellar atmospheres has, hence, been much more demanding than initially anticipated. This Splinter1 has combined new developments in atmosphere modelling, with noval observational techniques, and new challenges arrising from planetary and space weather observations.

متن کاملThe need for small-scale turbulence in atmospheres of substellar objects
Brown dwarfs and giant gas planets are substellar objects whose spectral appearance is determined by the chemical composition of the gas and the solids/liquids in the atmosphere. Atmospheres of substellar objects possess two major scale regimes: large-scale convective motions + gravitational settling and small-scale turbulence + dust formation. Turbulence initiates dust formation spot-like on s...
متن کاملCloud formation in substellar atmospheres
Clouds seem like an every-day experience. But – do we know how clouds form on brown dwarfs and extra-solar planets? How do they look like? Can we see them? What are they composed of? Cloud formation is an old-fashioned but still outstanding problem for the Earth atmosphere, and it has turned into a challenge for the modelling of brown dwarf and exo-planetary atmospheres. Cloud formation imposes...
متن کاملRain and Clouds in Brown Dwarf Atmospheres: a Coupled Problem from Small to Large
The large scale structure of a brown dwarf atmosphere is determined by an interplay of convection, radiation, dust formation, and gravitational settling, which possibly provides an explanation for the observed variability. The result is an element depletion of the dust forming regions and an element enrichment of the dust evaporating sites. The formation of dust cloud structures in substellar a...
